MADMANS ESPRIT is a post black metal band from South Of Korea formed in 2010. I had the honor of interviewing KYUHO. After unveiling the new MV "You don't allow me", Madmans Esprit will release his new album soon. Thanks to Kyuho for giving me this interview.

Visual Kei 974 : How did you start your activities? What made you want to make metal?

Madmans Esprit : I've started Madmans Esprit around 10 years ago in Seoul, Korea with couple of people I knew at that moment. We all started listening to music from visual kei influence and we moved to more extreme kind of metal later. That natural influences directed early Madmans Esprit's sound. I've been always having very strong, violent emotions inside myself and the sound of metal makes me able to express those. But there are much more of different genres and emotions that are strangled with those violent emotions. I actually don't necessarily define myself as a metal musician. I look at myself more as a composite artist.

V-Kei 974 : Your style is very remarkable, how do you describe it?

Madmans Esprit : Indescribable would be my favorite answer.

V-Kei 974 : How to shoot the MV "You don't allow me"?

Madmans Esprit : "You don't allow me" was taken in Insa-dong in Seoul, very popular touristic area. I wanted to express the pain of being in the world, trapped in life. The world of mindless mass and the loneliness in there where the normality of majority is always stable. The contrast of a madman and the world of sanity. But isn't actually that normality already insane?

V-Kei 974 : What are you talking about this new title?

Madmans Esprit : 무의식의 의식화 means conscientization of unconsciousness in English. I have general interest in politics, psychology and philosophy. This could mean all differently in three subjects. But it also means that my music is a materialized notion from myself. My music itself is a conscientized unconsciousness of myself.

V-Kei 974 : Tell me about your next future album.

Madmans Esprit : It's going to be a more matured, progressed album in comparison of previous album. If the previous album was a bit more concentrated with Black metal and its sub-genres, this time the variation of genre is much broader. The pre-order from limited physical edition with a bonus track is on until 24th of August, after that the official digital release will be done by Gan Shin Records on 1st of October worldwide.

V-Kei 974 : Which artist would you like to collaborate with someday? Madmans Esprit : Dir en grey, sukekiyo. I would like to make collaborations with fashion/video artists too.

V-Kei 974 : I think that many young make Visual Kei but mostly metal to free themselves on what they feel. What advice would you give them?

Madmans Esprit : Don't be a copy of a copy.

V-Kei 974 : For finish, In Reunion Island, we are a community which develops, Do you have a message to pass us? And for people who don't know you?

Madmans Esprit : Visual Kei can be from different perspectives a composite art or a shallow capitalistic shit. Or both at the same time. Don't be the second one only at least.
